Adrian College Falls in Tip-Off Tournament Opener 62-54

ADRIAN, Mich. – It was a rough night on the court for the lady Bulldogs fell 62-54 in the opening round of the Adrian College Tip-Off Tournament. Adrian battled it out with North Park University in a physical game where a combined 57 fouls were called. Adrian is now 1-1 on the season.

For the game, the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Vikings 41-34, but struggled at the charity stripe shooting 17-31 (54.8%). Adrian stayed on the Vikings heels during the first half trailing by 10 at the end of the first half. North Park jumped out in the second half, getting their lead up to 15 with seven minutes to go trailing 38-53. The bulldogs rallied strong going on a 16-4 run, trailing only by only three with 1:44 left in the game. A couple of turnovers and missed shots in the final minute left the Bulldogs with their first loss of the season.

Leading the way for Adrian was junior Kellee Wonders (Pittsford, Mich./Hudson) shooting 5-10 from the floor and 3-4 from the line for 13 points, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman Senecca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds before fouling out. Sophomore Jasmine Byers (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) had a solid game pouring in six points while pulling down five boards. Sophomore Kayla Galecka (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) had a game-high five assists while adding in six points. Sophomore Rachel Walker (Warrensville Hts., Ohio/John F. Kennedy) and freshman LaQwana Dockery (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) each added in six points.

Adrian will now face Fontbonne in the consolation game of the AC Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday November 20 starting at 1:00 p.m. to be followed by the finals, Wittenberg versus North Park.
