Shooting over 50 percent from the field in the second half, the
Lycoming
College women's basketball team edged visiting Arcadia University
58-53 in a Commonwealth Conference match up on Sunday, Feb. 7.
Arcadia (5-15, 0-10) opened the game with a 12-0 run, but the Lady
Warriors eliminated the difference to be down only 25-20 at
halftime. Senior Rebecca Leid (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) was Lycoming's
leading scorer in the first half, putting up five points. Freshman
Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) led the Warriors on the
glass, grabbing six rebounds, four of which were on offense,
allowing Lycoming to score nine second-chance points.
The Warriors (7-14, 4-6) took 35 shots in the first period,
connecting on just seven. Lycoming was big on the boards,
outrebounding the Knights 27-19.
Jessica Zerbee (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) exploded in the
second half, putting up 12 points, shooting three-for-four from
beyond the arc and hitting all three of her free throw attempts.
The Warriors' shooters were more efficient in the second half,
hitting 13 of their 25 attempts, and shot perfect a perfect
six-for-six from the free throw line.
Two Lycoming players reached double-digits in scoring. Leid paced
the game with 14 points, followed by Zerbee's 12. Scheller led the
Warriors on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds, including five
on offense. Coming off the bench, Alicia Engler (Williamsport,
Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) put up nine points and had eight boards.
Lycoming was potent from the charity stripe, going 11 for 13. The
team shot 33.3 percent (20-of-60) on the floor, knocking down seven
three-pointers. The Warriors' substitutes were key in the win,
recording 31 points. Lycoming also scored 16 second-chance points.
Forcing the Knights into 19 turnovers, Lycoming scored 20
points.
Midway through the second half, Kim Milligan hit a three-pointer,
putting her in the 1,000-point club. Leading the game in rebounds
was Jackie Law, who hauled in 15, 12 of which were on defense. She
also posted 10 points. Corrine Geiger was Arcadia's leading scorer
with 12, followed by Angie Adams' 11 points.
Lycoming is back on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when it travels
to Elizabethtown
College. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
Notes: Lycoming sweeps the season series … the Warriors are
4-0 all-time against Arcadia … Engler has scored 33 points
