Keuka College Men's Basketball Soars Past Elmira

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team defeated Elmira College 93-72 on Friday night in an Empire 8 Conference game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (10-12, 8-7 Empire 8) was led by graduate student Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) with 31 points. Mac Creek (Tampa, Fla. / Cambridge Christian) finished with 17, and first-year Amar Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) recorded his first career double-double in his first career start with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wolves came out fast on Friday night, making shots and playing pressure defense. The Green and Gold scored 13 straight to take a 15-2 lead over the Soaring Eagles. Keuka forced 10 Elmira turnovers over the first seven minutes of the game. Elmira got back into the game with their three-point shooting, cutting the margin down to six, the Wolves answered at every call to push the lead back to double figures. Keuka took their largest lead of the half, 17 points when Mac Creek stole the ball and found Amar Jackson for the layup to make it 42-25 with 1:35 left in the first. The Wolves carried a 14-point lead, 45-31, into the locker rooms at halftime.

Elmira College continued to attack from deep, making a pair of threes in the opening minutes to cut the lead down to ten. However, the Wolves tightened up their defense and allowed just two more triples for the rest of the game. The Green and Gold started to get the momentum rolling. A three-point play by Amar Jackson pushed the lead over 20 points. Back-to-back threes by Devin Milton gave the Wolves their largest lead of the game, 24 points, midway through the second half. Milton hit four of his threes in the second half. The Green and Gold would maintain the lead throughout as they continued onto the 93-72 victory.

  • Keuka College swept the season series with Elmira College and leveled the all-time series at 12-12
  • 31 points for Devin Milton is a season-high for all Keuka College scorers. He last hit 30 points in December 2022 with 33 at Pitt.-Bradford
  • Milton now has 1,541 points in his career and sits on the verge of passing Shawn Reed's '89 1,548 points for the career scoring record
  • Adding to the scorers for Keuka was Christian Sage (Owego, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) with 13 points and Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) with 11 points. It was the first time Keuka College had all five starters score in double figures since February 2020 at Cazenovia College
  • Mac Creek led the Wolves with five steals and Amar Jackson was right behind him with four. As a team, the Wolves had 16 steals and forced 22 Soaring Eagle turnovers. Keuka College had a 35-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Wolves turned the ball over a season-low six times

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will square off with Alfred University at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both teams have secured their spot in the postseason and are locked into the fourth and fifth seeds. The winner of the game on Saturday will host the rematch in the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament on Tuesday.
