Wolves Cruise Past Gators 85-56

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team earned their sixth Empire 8 victory of the season, defeating Russell Sage College 85-56 on Friday night.

Alijah Ellis (Portsmouth, Va. / Indian River / Fork Union Military Academy) posted his third double-double of the season for Keuka College (8-9, 6-4 Empire 8) with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) led the Wolves in scoring against the Gators with 19 points in the win.

Keuka College 85 at Russell Sage College 56

The Wolves came out with some fast shooting as Devin Milton hit his first shot of the game, a three, for the early lead. The Wolves rode that momentum to 10-2 early advantage, capped by a three-point play by Alijah Ellis. Keuka continued to push the host Gators. A three by Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) gave the Green and Gold a 21-4 lead just over six minutes into the contest. Sage settled into the game but was unable to cut the margin to single digits. A 7-0 spurt by the Wolves pushed the lead to 20 with 4:34 left in the first. Amar Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) found Ezeke Pulliam (Altamont, N.Y. / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) for a late layup to extend the advantage to 23, but Russell Sage hit a three at the buzzer to make it a 20-point lead for the Wolves, 43-23, at halftime.

Keuka College played with the lead for the duration of the second half. The Green and Gold did not trail once on Friday and led by as many as 32 in the game. Daniel Obunse (Queens, N.Y. / Flushing) hit three threes in the second half. Devin Milton and Christian Sage (Owego, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) each scored eight in the second to help Keuka College secure the victory.

  • Keuka College won their fifth straight against Russell Sage and improve to 6-2 all-time against the Gators
  • The 29-point win tied for the largest win by the Wolves in the series
  • Daniel Obunse was also in double figures for scoring, getting 12 points
  • Jaden Keasey (Newport News, Va. / Menchville) was right behind Ellis on rebounds. The senior had nine in the win
  • As a team, Keuka had a season-high 48 rebounds. They were +17 on the boards, also a season-high
  • Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) collected his 200th rebound of his career

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will look to keep the momentum going and sweep the weekend. Keuka College travels to Hartwick College to face the Hawks on Saturday afternoon. The Green and Gold won 91-63 in Keuka earlier this season. Tipoff between the Wolves and Hawks is set for 4 p.m.
