James Scores 1,000th Point in 88-47 Win Over Washington College

BALTIMORE, MD – Graduate student Carson James scored a game-high 26 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to an 88-47 win over Washington College Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the Centennial Conference with their ninth straight win.

Hopkins led 17-6 early, thanks to a combined five triples from James and juniors John Windley and Brian Johansson. Washington College cut the deficit to single digits with an old-fashioned three-point play from Paul Rodolf and a pull-up jumper from Ethan Schwantes.

The Blue Jays answered with a methodical 20-6 run as they pushed their lead to 20 by the 5:32-mark. Seven different players scored during the run, which included 11 points off turnovers. Johansson capped the run with bucket off a back-door cut.

Washington College halted the run with a Jason Zielinski three-pointer, followed by a pair of Kedrick Frink free throws. Hopkins answered with a 15-5 run to close the half and take a 52-27 lead into the half. Freshman Jeb Williams and sophomore Charlie Jackson did the bulk of the damage in that last run, combining for 13 of the Blue Jays' 15 points.

The Jays picked up right where they left off as James opened the second-half scoring with a three from the top of the key. The teams traded scores over the ensuing three minutes and JHU led 59-33. The Blue Jays pushed their lead to 32 at the 15:16-mark with a quick six-point spurt. The Shoremen would get no closer than 29 the rest of the way as Hopkins would eventually push its lead to 41.

James scored his milestone points on a turnaround fadeaway jumper with 3:14 to play. It was his third 20-point game of the season and the 26 points tied his career high. James is the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 points.

Jackson finished with 12 points, going 5-of-5 from the field, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Williams also reached double figures with 10 points and had three steals. Graduate student Sidney Thybulle totaled eight points and seven boards, along with two blocks. Freshman Brayden Fagbemi finished with game-highs of seven assists and nine rebounds. Frink led the Shoremen with 10 points and five boards. Rodolf also grabbed five rebounds and chipped in seen points.

Hopkins hits the road on Saturday as the Blue Jays visit the Muhlenberg Mules. Tip-off at Memorial Hall is slated for 2:00 pm.

Notes: The Blue Jays' 27 assists are tied for the fifth most in school history.
