Men's Basketball finishes as runner-up at Christopher Newport Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Stevenson University men's basketball team finished as the runner-up at the 2023 Captains Shootout on Friday, dropping a 71-51 contest to host and 12th-ranked Christopher Newport.
 
The Captains (11-3), the defending national champions, led by 17 at intermission and was paced by 24 points from Jahn Hines. Hasan Hammad had 19 points for the host Captains.
 
Stevenson (6-5) was led by nine points from Cameron Smith and eight points from Myles Jackson. Smith was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance over the weekend. He also finished with nine rebounds and two assists.
 
Joey Lutz and Kole Beaman each had seven points for the Mustangs, as Stevenson went a perfect 14-for-14 from the foul line in the second half.
 
Stevenson opens 2024 at home on Wednesday, hosting Eastern to open MAC Commonwealth play as the back half of a doubleheader at 7.
