Road Kills Eastern Connecticut Again, Still Winless on Opponents' Court

KEENE, N.H. --  The Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team got 41 points from seven bench players, but shot 33 percent from the floor and gave up 29 points off 23 turnovers in an 85-60 Little East Conference loss to Keene State College Tuesday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium.

Keene (11-2, 5-0 LEC) broke an early tie with seven straight points and later pushed the lead to as many as 19 in the final two minutes of the first half.

The loss for Eastern (3-11, 0-5 LEC) leaves it winless (0-6) on its opponents' court this year. The Owls improved to 5-1 at Spaulding Gymnasium.

First-year guard Cedrick Similien (Norwich) came off the bench to score a career-high ten points in 20 minutes, with junior guard Dan Wellington (Bridgeport) and first-year sophomore Julian Sanchez (Willimantic) each adding nine points off the bench. Sanchez led the Warriors with a career-high nine rebounds. No Eastern started managed double figures, with two of them being held scoreless on 0-of-9 shooting.

Octavio Brito led Keene with 22 points in 23 minutes and Jeff Hunter had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in 24 minutes.

Eastern hosts Castleton University Thursday at 3 p.m. in a conference match, where one team will earn its first LEC victory. Castleton (4-10, 0-5 LEC) is coming off its fourth straight loss Tuesday evening, a 62-57 home LEC loss to Plymouth State University.
