Men's Basketball fends off St. Joseph's of Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Stevenson University men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid on Saturday, picking up a 65-62 win over St. Joseph's of Brooklyn in a non-conference match up.
 
Cameron Smith scored 15 points, with Rasheed Cooley netting 13 and Ronald Ayers getting 12.
 
Nate Arrington had 15 rebounds as the Mustangs enjoyed a 46-30 edge in rebounding.
 
The Bears (1-7) got a game-high 20 points from Jonathan Reno and 11 points from Evan Sirakis.
 
Stevenson (3-3) came out firing and led 12-1 with 12:19 left in the first half, maintaining the lead until very late in the first stanza when Adam Jasaraj made a layup at the buzzer to give the Bears a 29-28 lead at intermission.
 
St. Joseph's, out of the Skyline Conference, built its lead to five at 38-33 with 15:20 left in the second half on a layup by Max Butler.
 
Stevenson would rally and go up by five at 49-44 on a pair of foul shots by Cooley with 9:14 left in the half. The Bears would come back and take a 60-59 lead with 68 seconds left on a layup by Nazareth Warren.
 
A layup by Ayers with 36 ticks left, on an assist by Smith, gave the Mustangs the lead for tood at 61-60. The Mustangs would hold the Bears without a field goal the rest of the way – with Cooley and Ayers making foul shots to keep the Mustangs ahead.
