RALEIGH, N.C. -- Senior Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) scored a game-high 18 points, and fifth-year Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) added 17 points, seven rebounds, and game-highs of eight assists and five steals, to lead nationally-ranked No. 6 Hampden-Sydney College to a 78-65 non-conference road win at William Peace University on Tuesday night in Raleigh, North Carolina. The visiting Tigers (7-1) used a 28-6 run to lead 44-27 at halftime, before closing the game on a 12-5 run against the host Pacers (4-5), who were led by Beau Bryant with 17 points.

"Big road win tonight," said fifth-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "Glad we could get that one done for Coach Gibson! They really punched us in the mouth in the second half, and I'm proud of how we responded and kept our composure. We will learn from this one."

H-SC scored the opening basket courtesy of a layup by senior Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA) just 28-seconds into the contest, and after a three-point field goal by WPU, the Tigers put together a 23-3 run to lead 25-6 at 12:30. The outburst included 17 unanswered points by the visitors as Hubbard scored nine points, seven-straight at one point, and senior DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA) came off the bench for a pair of three-pointers as six different players scored during the run. The Garnet & Grey extended the run to 28-6 to take a 30-9 advantage with 10:23 on the first-half clock, and the margin was 34-13 following a jumper by Hubbard at 8:34. The Pacers managed to close to within 42-27 late in the half before Clements added a late layup for the 44-27 lead at the intermission.

The Tigers led 46-27 early in the second half following a jumper from Hubbard at 18:15, but WPU rallied back on its home floor with a 23-10 run to close to within 56-50 with 10:48 remaining. H-SC extended the margin to 62-50 at 8:27 behind six-straight points, including four from Clements, who had a steal and two-handed slam dunk during the quick run. The Garnet & Grey led 64-54 at 6:06 after a floater in the lane by senior team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), and it was 66-56 at 5:27 following a layup from Brazil. The Pacers made a final push and were within 66-60 with 4:35 left to play, but the visitors closed the contest on a 12-5 run to secure the outcome … scoring eight unanswered points late, including a slam dunk by Hubbard off a steal by Clements, along with a big three-pointer from Elliott.

Hubbard led H-SC with his game-high 18 points, adding five rebounds. Clements finished with his 17 points, seven rebounds and game-highs of eight assists and five steals for the Tigers—equaling his career-high in assists. Wright contributed eight points (2-3 3FGs) off the bench, while Brazil and Elliott each added seven points with Brazil adding four assists, as well. Fifth-year Chase Turner (Virginia Beach) and freshman Blake Wilson (Charlottesville) each had six points off the bench. H-SC shot 52% (30-58) from the field, including 43% (6-14) on three-pointers, and 86% (12-14) at the free throw line.

Bryant led WPU with his 17 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. Tyler Parton added 14 points and four assists for the Pacers. WPU shot 41% (21-51) from the field, including 42% (10-24) on three-pointers, and 52% (13-25) at the line.

H-SC will return home for a non-conference game against nationally-ranked No. 25 Swarthmore (PA) College (7-2) on Thursday night, December 14, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. Admission is free to all regular season home games.
