Late Game Run Lifts Rochester over York (Pa.)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The York College men's basketball team surrendered a late run in the game as the University of Rochester hung on for a 73-66 win over the Spartans in a non-conference contest on Tuesday in Rochester.
The Spartans held a 66-62 lead on a bucket with 5:19 left but then were blanked over the remainder of the game to suffer their third loss of the year.
York falls to 4-3 overall while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-4.

How It Happened
• Rochester got off to a good start as the Yellow Jackets began the game on a 14-6 spurt to seize the early momentum. Tate Landis drilled back-to-back triples to bring York to within a bucket at 14-12 with just under 12 minutes left in the half. Those Landis threes started an 11-2 Spartan run that gave York a 17-16 lead.
• The Yellow Jackets responded with a 14-3 run that covered over five minutes of game time. That spurt gave Rochester a 30-20 lead as CJ Amsellem and Malachi Moore each scored four points during the run. The Spartans scored 11 of the final 19 points of the half as the Jackets took a 38-31 lead to the intermission.
• York struggled from the field in the opening half as they were just 11-for-34 (32.4%) from the floor while the Yellow Jackets converted 45.5% (15-for-33) from the field. Rochester dominated the Spartans on the glass, out-rebounding York 28-17 which led to 13 second chance points.
• The Spartans opened the second half with a 12-5 run, tying the game at 43 just over four minutes into the half. Kai Cipalla had seven points on the run as the Green and White erased their halftime deficit. The Yellow Jackets scored six of the next nine points to take a 49-46 lead but Landis hit another set of back-to-back threes as the York lead was 52-49 with 13:51 left in the game.
• Rochester tied the game back up at 55 and that started a see-saw period of the game where the teams went back and forth with the lead. Amsellem hit a three to give Rochester a short-lived 60-59 advantage but the Spartans responded with a 7-2 run to push out to a 66-62 lead on a Jackson Mascari lay-up with 5:19 left in the game.
• The Spartans then went ice cold from the floor as the Yellow Jackets held York scoreless over the final five minutes of play. Rochester tied the game on an Amsellem lay-up and then took the lead for good on a Logan Jagodzinski free throw with 2:59 remaining. Rochester salted away the win by converting 5-of-7 from the stripe to earn the seven-point win. During the 11-0 run, York went 0-for-8 from the floor, including 0-for-4 from three, over that final stretch.
