Clarkson Suffers First Defeat of the Season at #6 Oswego State, 92-83

Oswego, NY – A late second-half comeback came up short as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team fell to sixth-ranked Oswego State, 92-83, on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping to 3-1 on the season, while Oswego State remained unbeaten at 3-0. Clarkson will stick closer to home this Friday when the team faces SUNY Potsdam at Maxcy Hall.

Oswego hit four 3-pointers in the first six minutes of the contest to build an early lead, and the advantage was stretched to 20 points on a Jamal Achille layup with 6:04 left. Less than 90 seconds later, Jeremiah Sparks hit a 3-pointer for the largest gap of the game at 24 points, but the Knights chipped away and reduced the margin to 17 points at the break.

Despite trailing by double figures for most of the second half, Clarkson made things interesting late in the contest due to a strong performance from beyond the 3-point arc, shooting 8-for-14 from distance. The Knights cut the margin to single digits in the final five minutes of the contest, putting the Lakers on the defensive. The narrowest margin of the half came when Braeden Burns hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left, cutting the margin to seven, but the last gasp came up short.

Clarkson had its fourth different leading scorer in four games with junior Jack Dalgety leading the squad with 22 points. Braeden Burns chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds and Matteo Sinon added 15 points. Steve DeRegis and Aydin Kocak also reached double figures for Clarkson. The Knights shot 23-for-26 from the free throw line overall and hit 14 3-pointers in the contest, but Clarkson was surprisingly just 9-for-28 from inside the arc.

Jeremiah Sparks recorded 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Lakers. Julien Crittenden scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting and Ahkee Anderson also scored 15 points, going 6-for-11 from the floor.
