MAHWAH, N.J. – A Ramapo (10-15, 6-12 NJAC) 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining was the difference as the William Paterson men's basketball team (10-15, 4-14 NJAC) was edged 66-63 by the Roadrunners in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game on Feb. 15.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • William Paterson trailed by one (11-10) with 11:57 on the clock in the opening half before the Pioneers erupted for a 20-7 run that lasted over nine minutes. Junior Shawn Summers Jr. was responsible for eight of his team's 20 points during that stretch while five other Pioneers got involved on the scoring end.
  • Ramapo continuously worked to chip into the deficit in the second half and pulled within three (32-29) with 17:06 remaining before William Paterson scored nine unanswered points with senior Adryan Lopez pouring in seven in 1:47 of action.
  • The Roadrunners later responded with a 14-5 run that began with 12:22 on the clock to gain a 52-51 edge.
  • The two sides began to trade baskets and with 3:02 remaining, Lopez knocked down a shot from deep to put the Pioneers ahead, 63-59. However, the Roadrunners evened the score at 63-63 and with seven seconds remaining buried a 3-pointer for what turned out to be the game-winning shot.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lopez capped his night with a team-high 19 points, four rebounds and three assists.
  • Summers Jr. recorded an 18-point performance with six rebounds.
  • Junior Caesar Silvestro shot 5-of-6 (.833) from the floor for an 11-point outing.
  • Senior Cody Ripato logged seven points and five boards.
