Guilford Holds Off Randolph

The Guilford College men's basketball continued its stretch of three road games against the Randolph College WildCats. The 16th-ranked Quakers jumped out to an early and held off the hosts for the 71-63 victory.

Senior Tyler Dearman led the way for the Quakers with 30 points, five assists, three boards, two blocks and steals. Gabe Proctor had a strong afternoon with 17 points, going 4-8 from three-point range.

Guilford (18-4, 11-2) opened the game with an 11-0 run with six coming off the hand of Dearman. Randolph (5-18, 1-12) cut the deficit to single-digits (11-3) but the Quakers went back to work on the offensive side. 

GC regained a double-digit advantage and never looked back for the remainder of the first half. The visitors led 40-27 going to the locker room.

In the second half, Guilford kept its control of the game as it grew the lead to 17 (62-45) with 6:01 remaining in regulation. However, the WildCats did not back down as they hit a three with 60 seconds left in regulation to pull within seven (66-59).

Down the stretch, Proctor and Dearman made five of their six combined free throw attempts to cement the eight-point victory.

The Quakers won the battle on the boards, 47-34 while nearly shooting 46-percent (11-24) from behind the arc. 

Guilford returns to the hardwood in a week as it travels to the University of Lynchburg on Saturday, February 11. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
