BRUNSWICK, Maine. – The Connecticut College men's basketball team opened a four-game road stretch with a 54-42 setback against Bowdoin College on Friday night at Morrell Gymnasium.

Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) paced the Camels with a season-high 21 points on 8-for-19 shooting and also added a pair of steals. Michael Simonds led Bowdoin with 16 points while Xander Werkman tacked on a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

After Schainfeld drilled a three-pointer on Conn's opening possession, the Camels played from ahead for the first 12 minutes of the contest. Bowdoin later tied the game on a trey by Alan Halpern, part of an 11-2 run that yielded a 17-13 lead for the hosts.

With 2:43 left in the half, a three-point play by Andrew Hartel (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) pushed Conn back in front at 21-19. However, the Polar Bears closed the stanza with an 8-0 run to lead by six at the break.

The Camels used a 10-4 run at the start of the second half to make up the difference, pulling even at 31-31 following a Schainfeld jumper at the 13:41 mark. Over the next few minutes, he then added two more buckets and assisted on another as Conn grabbed a 37-32 lead.

Bowdoin used an 11-2 spurt to regain the lead and held on to the finish. Simonds netted six points during the stretch, which left the Polar Bears nursing a 43-39 advantage with 2:49 remaining.
A three-pointer by Werkman stretched Bowdoin's lead to seven in the final minute, forcing Conn to foul in the late stages of the contest. Simonds added his final six points of the night from the charity stripe to close out the contest.

The Camels shot just 33 percent from the floor and finished with only five free throw attempts to Bowdoin's 18.
