Garland records triple double, Albion blows by Alma

ALBION – Fred Garland. Triple double.

In an 87-69 rout of Alma College, Garland recorded a triple double for the Albion College men's basketball team. Garland scored 21 points, brought down 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.

Ken Thomas led the Brits with 22 points. In his first game back in two weeks, Jonathan Armstead-Wilkerson scored 13 points and added five assists.

Junior post AJ Barden continues to shine. Barden turned in his second straight double-double, scoring 12 points and hauling in 14 rebounds. All 14 of his boards came on the defensive end and he had a career-high six blocks.

Less than four minutes into the contest, the Britons built their lead to 14-3. Albion got out in transition and was able to score early and often, as the hosts finished the night with 19 fast break points.

The Britons continued to torch the Scots, leading 25-6 with 13 minutes before halftime. Alma began to hit threes and chip away at the Albion lead. At the half, the Brits still led by a double-digit margin, 46-34.

Albion kept pressuring Alma and taking advantage of misses by the Scots. Building the lead to as many as 21, the Britons remained in total control for the remainder of the contest.

Albion was a dangerous 53 percent from deep, aided by three triples from Armstead-Wilkerson.

The Brits hit the road on Saturday to take on Hope College. Game time against the Flying Dutchmen is scheduled for 5 p.m.
