Gentile Scores 1000th point in Win Over Hartwick

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team hosted Hartwick College on Friday night. At the end of regulation Fisher won by a final score of 100-67. The Cardinals now hold an overall record of 9-5, and are 5-2 in conference play. The Hawks fall to 4-10 on the season and are 3-5 in conference play.

As the game began, Jack Foley got the scoring started for the Cardinals, assisted by Cole ThompsonDaniel Cook took it hard to the basket and was fouled; he tallied two free throw shots to bring the Cardinals on top 4-3. Connor Recore got on the board with a layup assisted by Brendan McCoy, the Cardinals now lead 11-8. The Hawks fought back, tying the score up at 15 a piece with 10 minutes to go. The Cardinals started to pull away, tallying 14 points in the next four minutes of the game, before the Hawks got back on the board. Cook had seven points in that run, Ryan Gentile with two, Recore with two and Matt Panara with three to put the team up 32-19 with five minutes to go. At the 2:34 minute mark Gentile hit 1000 points in his career, assisted by Cook. Going into halftime the Cardinals led by a score or 42-25, their largest lead of the half.

The Hawks got a quick start with the first three baskets of the half. Recore broke their run with the next seven points of the game, bringing Fisher up 49-31. Connor Williams got on the board with a layup, assisted by Cook, he added nine more points in the next three minutes. The Cardinals took over from here and did not let up. Brendan McRoy added to the success, converting on a dunk off his own steal, bringing the score to 75-47 with 10 minutes to go. Eric KeglerBrad Fowler, and Akinlana Popoola also tallied points to add to the momentum push. With 1:41 left, Williams finished on a layup, assisted by Panara to get the Cardinals to triple digits, a score of 100-62. McRoy had 12 points in the second half and Williams had all 13 of his points in the second half. After 40 minutes, the Cardinals won by a score of 100-67.

Recore and Cook led the way and both had 15 points on the night. Cook added eight rebounds, six assists and had two blocks. Recore had three rebounds and two blocks and went 6-for-8 on his field goals. McRoy ended the game with 14 points, two assists, two steals and went 100% for field goals and free throws. Williams had 13 points, four rebound, one assist and went 5-for-6 on his field goals.

Up next for the Cardinals, they will host Russel Sage College, Saturday the 21st for an Empire 8 match up. The game is set to start at 4pm.
