PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Austin Grunder (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) scored a season-high 36 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots, and Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) tallied a career-best 23 points and added seven rebounds and three assists, as Cortland defeated host Plattsburgh, 81-71, in a SUNYAC men's basketball contest.

Cortland upped its record to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons travel to Potsdam on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest.

Grunder finished three points shy of matching his career high of 39, which he set versus New Paltz last season. He was 14-of-22 from the field, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range, and hit all five of his free throws. Lubin was 6-of-10 from the floor, with 3-of-4 accuracy from the 3-point arc, and he made all eight of his free throws. Those foul shots all came in the final 36 seconds on three 1-and-1's and a two-shot situation to help seal the victory.

Cam Williams (Rome/Rome Free Academy) chipped in with 12 points and career-highs of six rebounds and four assists. Riley McEvoy (Homer) and Humberto Cabrera (Millbrook) each finished with three assists.

Plattsburgh (3-7, 0-4 SUNYAC) was led by Franklin Infante with 16 points and six rebounds. Erik Salo scored 14 points and led the Cardinals with eight rebounds, while Sherriff Conteh and Kevin Tabb each scored 13 points.

Cortland jumped out to a 31-12 lead less than 14 minutes into the game, but Plattsburgh got back to within 41-29 at halftime and quickly got to within one at 50-49 with 14:46 remaining. Cortland briefly pushed its lead to 64-53 with 11:07 left, but the Cardinals answered again and trailed by one at 64-63 with 7:50 left and again at 66-65 with 4:50 remaining.

Cortland, however, never relinquished the lead. Williams hit a shot with 4:33 left and Lubin made a 3-pointer at the 3:26 mark to put the Red Dragons up by six. On Cortland's next possession Williams made a leaping play to control an offensive rebound heading over the baseline and on the save dished the ball to Grunder for a layup that extended the lead to 73-65 with 2:41 left. Plattsburgh got no closer than six after that as Lubin's free throws accounted for Cortland's final eight points. Cortland finished the game 13-for-13 from the foul line, all from Lubin and Grunder.
