Spartans Drop Home Opener to Hornets

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester men's basketball team dropped the 2022-23 home opener to the visiting Kalamazoo College Hornets.Despite a late run at the end of the second half, the Spartans fell short to the Hornets 90-86.

Kalamazoo was led by Nicholas Olmeda who finished the night with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Lukas Broadsword added 19 points, 2 blocks, and 3 assists for the Hornets. As a team, Kalamazoo shot 55.8% from 2-point range and 65.8% from the free throw line. The Hornets improved to 1-0 overall. 

Logan Willoughby (Greenwood, Ind., Whiteland Community) led the Spartans with a career-high 30 points and 8 rebounds. Bryant Smith (West Lafayette, Ind., Harrison) chipped in 20 points while Ty Lynas (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) finished the night with 15 points and 7 assists for the Black and Gold. As a team, Manchester shot 47.8% from 2-point range and out-shot the Hornets from the free throw line with a 84.6 free throw percentage. 

Manchester fell to 0-2 overall and will look to get into the win column on Saturday, November 12th. The Spartans will host the Bulldogs of Adrian College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
