Anthony Leads #1 R-MC Men’s Hoops past BC in ODAC Quarterfinals

SALEM, Va. – Senior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding), the ODAC Player of the Year, had 22 points and eight assists as the top-seeded and top-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated No. 9 Bridgewater 80-56 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 ODAC Tournament to extend its win streak to 19 games.

How it Happened:

  • Junior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) had five points and junior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) added four as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 12-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Following a pair of free throws by the Eagles, senior Ian Robertson (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) hit a long jumper and junior Noah Lindsay (Moseley, Va./Benedictine) made a layup as R-MC went up 17-2 with 14:10 left in the first half. BC closed within 10 at 22-12 before Anthony had two layups in an 11-2 run as the lead grew to 33-14 with 4:25 remaining. The Eagles hit two late treys to close to within 11 before Anthony nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left as the Yellow Jackets took a 40-26 advantage at the break. Anthony led R-MC with nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
  • Talbert converted a three-point play to start the second half as the Yellow Jackets went up 43-26. Talbert had a layup, Anthony nailed a trey and Robertson scored in the lane as R-MC took a 54-31 lead with 14:30 remaining. The Eagles scored five straight points before a triple by Anthony and a layup by Lindsay made it 59-36 with 12 minutes left. Anthony had a jumper and a three-pointer followed by a Mallory layup as the Yellow Jackets took their largest lead at 69-43 with 6:50 remaining. Lindsay would have the final basket of the game to make the final score 80-56.

By The Numbers:

  • The Yellow Jackets three score in double figures. Anthony had 22, Talbert finished with 17 and Robertson added 10 off the bench. Lindsay recorded with a career-high eight points.
  • R-MC shot 51.5% from the floor (34-66) and 65% inside the arc (26-40).
  • The Yellow Jackets had a 39-28 advantage on the glass. Talbert led the victors with seven, while sophomore Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) grabbed six.
  • Anthony topped the victors with nine assists, while Talbert dished out six.
  • The Yellow Jackets committed nine turnovers and were in single digits for the sixth straight game. The R-MC defense forced 12 BC turnovers and the Yellow Jackets had a 15-2 edge in points off turnovers.

  • R-MC has won 19 straight games and 42 of its past 43 contests. It is the third-longest win streak in program history.
  • Over the past four seasons, R-MC is 92-7 overall (.929) and 49-2 in ODAC contests (.961).
  • R-MC has won 12 straight games against BC.
  • Mallory had four blocks to raise his career total to 163, the second-highest total in program history. Pat Holland owns the R-MC record with 174.
  • Anthony had 22 points to give him 1,857 for his career, the third-highest total in program history.
  • Anthony had eight assists to give him 739, the most in ODAC history and the second-highest total in program history. Paul Jez owns the R-MC record with 747.
  • Anthony had three steals to give him 230, the most in program history.
