#1 R-MC Men’s Hoops Posts 16-0 ODAC Mark, First Win at GC since 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) scored 16 points and junior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added 15 as the top-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team won 72-66 at Guilford on Saturday to extend its win streak to 18 in its first win in Greensboro since 2008.

How it Happened:

  • The Quakers had the first bucket of the game before senior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit a three-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 edge. GC led 4-3 before Mallory hit a jumper and a trey in a 7-0 run as R-MC went up 10-4 with 16:40 left in the first half. Triples by senior DaQuan Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill School) and sophomore Will Coble (Charlotte, N.C./Davidson Day) gave the visitors an 18-8 advantage with 13:30 remaining. Treys by Morris and senior Ian Robertson (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) were followed by a jumper from senior David Funderburg (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) as the Yellow Jackets took a 26-10 lead with 11:20 left. A triple by Talbert grew the lead to 17 at 31-14 with 9:40 remaining. A three-pointer by Anthony made it 47-29 with 1:45 left. GC would hit a free throw as the Yellow Jackets led 47-30 at the half. R-MC hit 11 of 15 three-point attempts.
  • Sophomore Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) had the first basket of the second half as the advantage grew to 49-30. A free throw by Mbangue game R-MC a 68-53 lead with 4:18 remaining before the Quakers had a 10-point run to pull within five at 68-63 with 50 seconds left. Talbert went 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the final 13 seconds to secure the 72-66 win.

  • The Yellow Jackets had just two score in double figures. Talbert put up 16 and Mallory added 15. Morris and Robertson both had nine off the bench.
  • R-MC shot a season-best 56.5% on three-pointers (13-23).
