MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Not only did the Grinnell College men's basketball team punch its ticket to the Midwest Conference Tournament Thursday night, but the Pioneers gained a little revenge in the process.

Grinnell dominated MWC co-leader Cornell College 82-68 in Mount Vernon, avenging a nine-point loss to the Rams at Darby Gymnasium in December.

The Pioneers stretched their winning streak to 10 games, the longest victory string for the program in a decade. They improved to 10-4 in the league and sit just one game out of the MWC lead. Grinnell is 16-6 overall, while Cornell fell to 11-4 in the MWC and 16-8 in all games.

Patrick Simms '22 posted a double-double for Grinnell with 13 points and 10 assists. He now ranks 16th in career assists at Grinnell with 204 and is 17th in steals with 120.

Adam Phillips '23 had the hot hand with 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting from 3-point range. Will Bebee '22 grabbed five rebounds and blocked four shots.

The first half was back and forth, with Morgan Walser '22 giving the Pioneers a 39-38 halftime lead when he hit a 3-pointer in the final minute.

Phillips began the second half with a 3-pointer to put the visitors up by four. Later Grinnell was up by three points at 49-46 before David Bluder '22 and Phillips each connected on treys to put Grinnell up by nine.

The Pioneers gradually pulled away from there for the win.

Grinnell concludes the regular season with two road games, playing at Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon and Illinois College Sunday afternoon.
