Hope wins at Olivet, stays on Calvin's heels in MIAA race

The Hope College men's basketball team remained a half-game out of first place in the MIAA standings by winning, 84-70, at Olivet College on Saturday.

Junior guard Evan Thomas scored a game-high 22 points for the Flying Dutchmen (16-6, 9-2 MIAA).

Hope can pull even with Calvin University in the MIAA standings with a win at Kalamazoo College on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Flying Dutchmen host Calvin on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Against Olivet, the Flying Dutchmen used a 24-7 run to grab a 31-14 lead with 7:21 remaining in the first half.

Junior guard Clayton Dykhouse (Zeeland East) chipped 15 points for Hope, which rebounded from a loss at Trine University on Wednesday.

Chris Martin's double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds topped Olivet (6-17, 3-9 MIAA).

The Flying Dutchmen were helped by Olivet's struggles at the foul line. The Comets finished the game at 39.3 percent (11-of-28).
