Medgar Evers Hands Baruch First CUNYAC Loss

The Baruch College Bearcats lost 71-65 to the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats took control early building a 25-11 lead after a pair of free throws by Cameron Burns, but the visiting Cougars rallied back and ended the first half scoring eight of the final 10 points to trail 30-27 at halftime.

The two teams exchanged leads during the second half of the very competitive contest, but the Cougars took the lead for good on a layup by Dimitri Weeks for a 48-47 score with 9:38 left. They later grew their advantage to 62-56 with 3:14 remaining.

The Bearcats battled back to get to within 63-60 with 1:34 left, but the Cougars ended the game making 7-of-8 free throws to seal the 71-65 road win. 

The loss ends the Bearcats' 10-game winning streak.

Bajrami led the Bearcats with 15 points and seven rebounds. Emil Purisic had 13 points and three steals.

Dante Simmons led the visitors with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Their bench scored a total of 32 points in the win.

Prior to the game, the Athletic Department honored Jack ReeseMichael Richards, and Adnan Bajrami on Bearcats Appreciation Night for their hard work and dedication to the basketball program.
