Milton Scores 25 in Wolves Loss

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Junior Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) led all scorers with 25 points but the Wolves fell on the road at Houghton College 90-77.

It was the third straight game with over twenty points and fifth in the last six for Milton. Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) and Daniel Obunse (Queens, N.Y. / Flushing) were also in double figures for Keuka College (3-15, 2-7 Empire 8). Tehan had 15 while Obunse finished with 11 for the Wolves.

Houghton College 90 vs. Keuka College 77

The Wolves used their outside shooting early as four threes paced the Wolves top a 14-8 start over the first three minutes. The Highlanders would erase the deficit and the game would become tied 18-18. A 12-0 run quickly ballooned the lead to 12 points in favor of Houghton College. The Wolves battled to keep it close in the first. Evan Hauser (Westfield, N.Y. / Westfield Academy) hit a three to narrow the margin to eight points. The Wolves would later dip it to five following a Devin Milton three with seven minutes left. The deep shooting continued to aid the Wolves. A three by Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) made it 43-40 with 3:42 left in the first, but that would be the final points of the half for Keuka. Houghton scored the final nine points to lead 52-40 at the half.

A personal five-point run by Devin Milton got the game back to single digits at 57-49. The lead would be pushed back out to double digits, but the Wolves did not go away. Midway through the second, Zayquan Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Holy Cross) made a layup and sank a free throw for a three-point play to make it a five-point game, 64-59. Next time down the floor, Daniel Obunse went 1-2 from the line to cut the lead to four, but a 10-0 run by the Highlanders push the lead back out. The Wolves were not able to get the margin back to single digits as Houghton College continued onto the 90-77 victory.

  • Keuka College is now 10-6 all-time against Houghton College
  • The Wolves faced the Houghton JV team in their first season of play in 1985-86 and then the varsity in 1986-87, but it was the first time they have met on the hardwood since the 2012-13 season and the first time in an Empire 8 Conference game
  • 25 points for Devin Milton is a season-high and one point off his career-high. Milton now has 274 points this season, setting a new personal best
  • Jahmr Jordan (Albany, N.Y. / Albany) had eight steals in the game. It was the most since Brian Pelkey had eight against St. John Fisher College in 2004 and one off the school record of nine steals set 30 years ago
  • Freshman Keion Brooks (Titusville, Fla. / Home-Schooled) got his first career start

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College and Houghton College will face each other again as the two teams complete their season series on Tuesday night. The Wolves and Highlanders will square off at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center in an Empire 8 clash at 7 p.m.
