Second Half Dooms Wolves

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team led 51-49 at the half, but were outscored 55-34 in the second to fall to Utica College 104-85 on Friday night at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (2-14, 2-6 Empire 8) was led by another strong game by Devin Milton (Opelousas, La. / Beau Chene) with a team-high 22 points. He also tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven, tying Will Tehan (Victor, N.Y. / Victor). Tehan was also in double figures with 11 points.

Utica College 104 at Keuka College 85

It was a fast-paced start with both teams scoring and the lead bouncing back and forth. In total, there would be four lead changes and the game would be tied six times in the first. Utica built a 13-10 lead six minutes in, but Nana Oteng (Queens, N.Y. / Martin Luther) responded with four straight of his own to give Keuka the lead. With the game later tied at 17, Keuka scored seven unanswered, capped by a Kobe Schriver (Hooper, Utah / Roy) three to grow a 24-17 advantage midway through the first. A three by Schriver would push the lead to double figures, 30-20, a minute later. It would be the largest lead of the half for the Wolves. Utica went on a 12-2 run to tie the game. Will Tehan knocked down a three to put Keuka back ahead. That was followed by a Mason VanDeMortel (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) three and a Daniel Obunse (Queens, N.Y. / Flushing) layup to give the Wolves the 40-32 lead. The Pioneers would cut back into the lead, shrinking down to one possession, but Keuka remained ahead 51-49 at the half.

Utica College tied the game a minute into the second half. The lead would then bounce from Keuka to Utica to Keuka and back to Utica. A three by Utica put the visitors ahead 57-56 2:30 in the final half, and Utica would hold on to it. After the Wolves got it back to one point, Utica scored seven unanswered to reestablish their lead. Utica held the Wolves off the board for nearly four minutes and during that time, built a 72-60 lead. Utica College continued onto the 104-85 conference victory.

  • Keuka College is now 7-17 all-time against Utica College. The Pioneers have won four straight
  • With his 22 points, Devin Milton tied his personal best for points in a season. The junior has 249 on the year, tying his freshman year output
  • The Wolves were able to run on the Pioneers, outscoring Utica 25-12 on the break. However, Utica College held a 52-16 advantage in the paint

Up Next for Keuka College: Playing their fourth game in five days, Keuka College will finish their busy stretch on Saturday. The Wolves will face the Highlanders of Houghton College for the first time this season. The Empire 8 game will tipoff from Houghton at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
