THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 7 Yeshiva University men's basketball team earned a convincing Skyline Conference victory over Maritime College, 70-42, at Riesenberg Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees remain unbeaten in conference play at 9-0 and pad their overall record to 16-1.

Leading the way for the Blue and White was graduate student Gabriel Leifer who tallied a double-double with 12 points and just as many rebounds, while dishing out six assists, forcing three steals, and blocking one shot. Senior Ryan Turell also had 12 points, while bringing down two boards and delivering just as many assists. He now moves past Simcha Halpert ('20) for No. 2 on YU's All-Time Scoring List with 1,851 career points. Sophomore Oren Betesh was lethal from beyond the arc, shooting 4-for-5 from deep to generate 12 points. The Queens native also snatched two rebounds. Junior Matan Zucker had a solid game with 10 points and five boards.

The Privateers (3-14, 0-10 Skyline) jumped out in front early, 7-2, but the Maccabees quickly grabbed momentum by going on a 15-2 run to take the lead for good. Zucker capped off the rally by converting a layup to give the Maccabees a 17-9 hold with 12:56 remaining in the opening half. Leifer nailed a 3-point basket and dunked the ball into the hoop during the 15-2 game-altering rally by YU.

Yeshiva went on another big run in the late stages of the opening half, outscoring Maritime 14-4 during the final six minutes of the period. Betesh opened YU's blitz with a shot from downtown, while Turell concluded the scoring in the first half by knocking down a jumper with 1:54 left to play to send the Maccabees into the intermission up 38-21. Turell's final bucket of the opening stanza officially moved him to No. 2 on YU's All-Time Scoring List.

Maritime could not sustain a consistent rally to get back into the game during the second half. Yeshiva was able to inflate its lead during big stretches of the final period as senior Aryeh Halpert drilled a 3-point shot to give the Maccabees their largest advantage of the afternoon, at 70-38, with 1:29 to go. Maritime scored the final four points of the contest, but it was not enough as Yeshiva earned the victory to remain unbeaten on the road this season.

For YU, graduate student Jordan Armstrong had eight points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Classmate Ethan Lasko had six points and four rebounds, while senior Eitan Halpert produced five points and three boards.

For Maritime, senior Ryan Donovan led all players with 17 points, while grabbing four rebounds.

It will be a battle of the two top Skyline teams in the standings on Tuesday, as No. 7 Yeshiva hosts the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Max Stern Athletic Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
