Yurasits Paces Men's Basketball In Home Win Over Goucher

SELINSGROVE, PA (January 22, 2022) -- Senior guard Lukas Yurasits posted an efficient 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting to propel the Susquehanna University men's hoops squad to a 68-52 win over Goucher College in Landmark Conference play from O.W. Houts Gymnasium. 

Yurasits needed only 27 minutes to get to his game-high 20 points, going 3-of-7 from downtown as well. Junior Dominic Dunn added 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds as well in the victory. Susquehanna (12-4, 4-1 Landmark) scored the first seven points of the game, including four from Yurasits, to take and hold the lead for the entire 40 minutes of the game. 

SU built its lead up to 10 on a three-pointer by Yurasits at 21-11, but the Gophers went on an 8-0 run to make it a 21-19 game with just over six minutes to play in the first half. The River Hawks finished the first half with a flurry, outscoring Goucher 17-3 to take a 16-point lead into halftime at 38-22. 

After the halftime intermission, Susquehanna grew its lead up to 22 at 50-28 on a triple from Yurasits, forcing a timeout by the Gophers. Visiting Goucher College got to as close as 12 but never was able to push SU's lead into single digits as the River Hawks cruised to the Landmark Conference win. Susquehanna has now won six of its last seven games, and is currently tied with the University of Scranton for second place in the league. 

The offense was spread out on Saturday for the River Hawks, as all nine players that played scored at least one field goal. Junior Howie Rankine, Jr. posted seven points in 14 points, while first-year Cooper Haberern added five points and two boards. Senior Jack Van Syckle got his second straight start, posting a career-high eight boards to go with six points. 

Junior Quincy Haughton was 3-of-4 on field goals for six points, also tallying five rebounds for the River Hawks, who shot 52.7 percent from the floor (29-55). SU held a 36-18 edge in points in the paint on Saturday, while SU's bench outscored the Gophers' reserves 16-3.

The River Hawks also held Goucher to just 40 percent shooting (18-45), the lowest shooting percentage against of the season for SU. The 18 field goals made against was also a season-low for SU. The hosts also won the rebounding battle, 38-22, allowing just two offensive rebounds to GC Saturday. 

Josh Lichti finished with 20 points for the Gophers, while Cameron Issacs tallied 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Tevin Venson also finished with seven points in the loss.
