RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Carroll University men's basketball team suffered another setback on Monday night against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, falling 62-67 on the road. The Pioneers scored 40 second-half points, but it wasn't enough to match Concordia's 41 second-half points. Aaron Wafford led the Pioneers with 12 points in 23 minutes. Tyler Miller contributed a career-high seven rebounds to go along with eight points off the bench.

The Pioneers (3-8, 0-4 CCIW) slip back to 0-4 on the road so far this season. Carroll improved on its slow shooting in the first half, to make 15-37 field goals in the second half while draining 8 of 12 free throws. The Pioneers' deep bench led by Miller's eight and Trenton Nickel's five points scored 27 of the 62 total points. Carroll led by as much as 10 points in the first half and led for over 11 minutes in the ballgame.

Carroll took its first lead in the first half after four minutes had gone in the game. Josh Hudgens (4 PTS) had a second chance layup fall to give Carroll a 4-3 lead. Ryan Mendoza (10 PTS, 2 AST) tied the game at seven apiece a minute later. Carroll's 10-0 run from 13:49 to 8:58 was propelled by two layups by Miller and a knockdown three from Nickel. The Cougars clawed all the way back to take a one-point lead with 2:41 remaining in the first period and would go into halftime with a 26-22 lead. Paradisio Dante had six of his 10 total points in the first half.

The Pioneers had the lead cut to just one after five points from Wafford alone in the first minute of the game, but Concordia jumped back out quickly to a seven-point lead. Carroll would go scoreless for over three minutes before Wafford's made free throw cut the deficit to 38-33. Carroll didn't make another field goal until 11:53 was left on the clock, Brandon Keaton's layup ended the drought. After 10 minutes of struggling to gain momentum, Mendoza's three-point play cut Concordia's lead to four points with 1:43 left in the game. Chicago scored six-straight points in less than a minute to go back up by after foul trouble gave the Cougars free throw opportunities.

Carroll will restart after the Christmas holiday down in Nashville, Tennessee with two games in the Music City Classic.
