Bakary's Big Night Aids in Men's Basketball's 112-94 Defeat Over Purchase

New York- The Hunter College men's basketball team defeated the Panthers of Purchase College in a non-conference contest in the Hunter Sportsplex, 112-94, on Monday evening.

The squad had six members logging double figures for the night with 12 different Hawks scoring on the night. Raheem Bakary stood out as he led the team with 20 points while going 3-3 behind the arc and 5-6 at the free throw line in addition to grabbing six rebounds, all career-highs for the senior. 

Luka Jakic logged 17 points for the night with six rebounds and five assists, while Cormac Reilly finished with 18 on the board. As a team, the Purple and Gold (4-5, 0-1 CUNYAC) shot for 44.8% from the floor which included 14 threes and a .69 free throw percentage. Despite being out-rebounded they had 21 steals while registering 42 points off of 20 forced turnovers.

Hunter struggled early on, facing a  seven point deficit, but clawed its way back, making a 14-2 run late in the first half and would head to half time leading 49-40. The Purple and Gold continued to edge out the Panthers (0-8) in the second half, outscoring their opponents 63-54. They came out strong, continuing the first period's momentum for a 13-point run. Hunter maintained its lead, at one point separating itself by 21 points as the team continued to dominate to finish off the night with a 112-94 victory.

The Hawks return to action on Dec. 29 as they face Saint Joseph's College - Brooklyn at home. First tip is slated for 2:00 p.m
