ROCHESTER, NY – A 35-15 St. John Fisher run in the second half pushed the game out of reach for the Buffalo State men's basketball team, as the Cardinals shot an impressive 60.3 percent from the field in a 107-98 decision Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Sheldon Adams (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led Buffalo State scorers with 30 points, going 10-of-17 from the field.
  • Philbert Weekes (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette) notched a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, adding four steals.
  • Daron Hughey (Hartford, CT/The Masters School) made his season debut, adding 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
  • Brendyn Cheng (Wantagh, NY/Commack) also made his season debut, adding 10 points and three assists off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Fisher held an early lead in the game's first few minutes, but a 9-0 Bengal run gave the visitors a 15-8 lead.
  • The Cardinals rallied to tie the game, but Buffalo State went on another run, capped off by a Cheng and-one basket for a 26-19 lead.
  • With the game once again tied, this time at 41, Adams scored six consecutive points, including a steal and one-handed fast break slam, to give the Bengals a six-point lead.
  • Daniel Cook finished the half with a dunk of his own for the Cardinals, who trailed by two, 47-45 at the half.
  • Both teams traded leads in the beginning stages of the second half, as the offenses continued to stay hot.
  • With the Bengals trailing by four at the 15:55 mark, six consecutive points, including a 3-pointer by Matt Parkinson (Springfield Gardens, NY/John Bowne) gave the team a two-point, 61-59 lead.
  • 'State had its last lead of the game a few minutes later at 63-61 after a steal and layup by Weekes.
  • Cook and the Fisher offense heated up from there, as he scored 16 points in a 35-15 run over a 10-minute span, giving the Cardinals a 96-78 advantage with under five minutes left.
  • The Bengals finished the game on a 13-4 run over the final 3:29.

 
FOR THE FOES

  • Cook led all scorers with 47 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 17-of-23 from the field.
  • Brendan Trapper added 19 points and four assists.
  • Sean Williams added 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
  • The Cardinals shot 60.3 percent (38-of-63) from the field and tallied 58 points in the paint.
