Four different Case Western Reserve University players scored at least 10 points, and nine scored at least six, as the Spartans defeated Hamilton College 83-73 inside Horsburgh Gymnasium on Sunday for the team's sixth-straight win.

The Spartans have now claimed six-consecutive wins since dropping their season opener. The team's 6-1 start matches the 1984-85, 2005-06 and 2014-15 CWRU teams for best record through seven games in team history. Hamilton dropped to 1-2 on the year following the loss.

On a day where the Spartans struggled to connect from long range, shooting just 15.8% (three-of-19) from behind the arc, the team found other ways to score the ball. CWRU shot 58.9% (26-of-45) on two-point attempts in the game, outscoring the Continentals 46-28 in the paint. CWRU also continued to excel from the free throw line, making 22-of-25 attempts (88.0%) and are now shooting 78.9% as a team this season.

Graduate student guard Mitch Prendergast led all CWRU players with 13 points in the game, while adding three steals. Senior forward Ryan Newton came off the bench to score 12 points on a five-of-nine shooting performance with seven rebounds, while graduate student forward Brian Hines added 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Robert Faller also dropped 10 points in the game, shooting four-of-six from the floor.

Graduate student guard Griffin Kornaker filled up the box score in the game with eight points, seven assists and five steals.

The Spartans took a 9-7 lead with 16:54 remaining in the first half on a layup by Kornaker, and would not trail again for the remainder of the half. CWRU used a 9-1 run later in the stanza, going ahead 26-18 after a jumper by Prendergast with 9:42 to play. The Continentals would battle back to pull within a point, 30-29, by the 5:56 mark, but another run by the Spartans, this time a 10-1 stretch capped off by a layup from Hines, gave CWRU a period-high 10-point lead with 2:06 left in the half, and the team took a 40-32 lead into halftime.

Hamilton opened the second half hot from the floor, using a 19-9 run over the first six minutes to take its first lead since the opening minutes of play. However, sophomore guard Luke Thorburn converted an and-one with 13:42 to play to turn a two-point Spartan deficit into a one-point lead, 52-51. CWRU would not trail again in the game, pulling away to take a game-high 20-point advantage, 79-59, on a layup by Prendergast with 4:44 left, before closing out a 10-point win.

CWRU's depth proved to be a major factor in the game, outscoring Hamilton's bench 19-0 in the first half and 36-5 overall on Sunday.

Case Western Reserve will return to action after Thanksgiving, wrapping up their four-game home stand at Horsburgh Gymnasium against John Carroll University on Saturday, November 27 at 1:00 p.m.
