Hawks Roll Past Pratt in Men’s Basketball Season Opener

Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team garnered its first win in its season-opener of the 2021-22 campaign, defeating Pratt, 128-117, Saturday afternoon at the Arc.

Six Hawks (1-0) finished in double-figures, as Hunter shot 39.3 percent (35-89) in its first win since Feb. 15, 2020.

The Hawks dished out 26 assists and forced 23 steals against the the Cannoneers (0-1) while just winning the board battle, 61-60.

Gene Propper led the team with 20 points, seven steals, and nine rebounds in his Hawks debut, followed by Casey Meyers with 19 points, both off the bench.

Cormac Reilly scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half as Hunter led 71-56 going into the second period.

Pratt held even with the Hawks on two separate occasions in the first half, but Hunter was the only team to lead the contest.

Jeremy Montrose and Jared Brown both went 4 for 6 from the line and added a three-pointer each to gather seven points a piece in the latter half of play.

The Purple and Gold caused 15 turnovers with 11 steals in the second half as it maintained its lead in the 128-117 victory.

Hunter will return to the court for its second game of the season on Wednesday (Nov. 10) at Mount Saint Vincent at 7:00 p.m. before its home opener that Friday against Old Westbury.
