Benedictine Men Split Weekend and Division Title

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team rebounded in a big way to split the weekend series with Rockford and record a share of the NACC South Division title.

THE DETAILS
Benedictine led for nearly the entire game, looking like a different team than the one who took the floor on Friday night
Nick Kosich and Trevor Montiel knocked down consecutive three-pointers to give Benedictine the lead for good
Chris Hester opened a 9-0 run with a layup as Benedictine pushed the margin to double figures at 33-23 on another three from Montiel with 2:52 remaining in the half
Trailing by seven at the half (35-28), Rockford pulled within six early in the second half but couldn't consistently get the deficit under double digits
Benedictine started to pull away when Montiel kicked off an 19-0 run with a jumper at the 8:50 mark
Cade Ellingson scored eight points in the run and Hester tallied eight including the final seven of the run which included a breakaway dunk as Benedictine led 77-48 with under five minutes remaining
Benedictine cleared the bench and was able to let some other players see the floor in the closing portion of the game including the seniors, who were honored before the contest

STAT LEADERS
Hester finished with 21 points while Montiel bettered his Friday night career best with 20, adding nine rebounds and five assists
Ellingson finished with 14 with Marvin Agowomoh pitching in 11 off the bench
Benedictine held Rockford 30 points below their season average and finished +11 on the glass at 40-29
Benedictine shot 49 percent from the floor and scored 28 points off turnovers with 44 in the paint
