Men’s Basketball: Titans Dominate Yellow Jackets, Improve to 3-0

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 81-52, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University on the road on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Titans were led by senior Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon), who commanded the glass with a career- and game high 19 rebounds (one shy of tying sixth all-time in a single game in program history) to go along with 16 points (third double-double of the season, 22nd career) and four assists (tied a career-high). Three other Titans finished in double figures, including first-year Andrew Clark (New Middletown, OH / Springfield Local), who finished with a team- and career high 17 points (11 points at halftime) to go along with seven boards and three assists. Clark also drilled a game- and career-high five three-pointers in the contest, going 5-for-7 from long range and registered three assists. Senior Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) and junior Tyler James (Youngstown, OH / Warren JFK) rounded out the Titans in doubles figures, as Ritter dropped 16 points and earned four assists and James scored 14 points, collected six rebounds and had a game-high three blocks.
 
Westminster (3-0) jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, capped off by a three from Stamatiades just over two minutes into the game. Waynesburg (0-1) stormed back with a 15-3 run to take a 17-11 lead midway through the first half. The Titans responded with a 15-2 run of their own to re-gain the lead at 26-19 with 3:45 left in the period. Westminster made use of the final minutes of the half, as Clark buried a three with 18 seconds left in the half to send the Titans into intermission with a 36-23 lead.
 
The Titans dominated the second half, extending their lead to 20 points at 47-27 off a Ritter three-pointer with 16:01 left in the game. Westminster held its largest lead of the contest at 70-35 with 8:30 left in the contest and firmly controlled the momentum for the remainder of the contest.
 
In addition to the four Titans in double figures, first-year Reese Leone (Beloit, OH / West Branch) dished out a game- and career-high seven assists to go along with five points and a team-high two steals. Senior Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) totaled five points and four rebounds, while sophomore Austin O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) registered four points, a career-high six rebounds and a pair of assists.
 
For the game, the Titans out shot Waynesburg 41.7% (30-72) to 30.5% (18-59) and crushed the Yellow Jackets on the glass with a 50-30 advantage. Westminster also shot a solid 42.9% (12-28) from long range and 81.8% from the charity stripe (9-11). The Titans also bested the Yellow Jackets in assists (21-8) and second chance-points (14-8).
 
Westminster is next scheduled to play at home against Washington and Jefferson on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m.
