LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's basketball team made a run in the second half, but some early offensive struggles were too much to overcome in a 58-55 loss to Caltech at Rush Gym on Tuesday.

Marcus Gee hit a step-back three as time expired to give the Beavers the victory.

Jacob Adler, who finished with a team-high 15 points, had hit the game-tying basket the possession before with 6 seconds left.

Sydney Shipp had 12 points and four steals, Caleb Yellin-Flaherty had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Ryan Kaneshiro had six points, five rebounds and five assists, and Anthony Hollerich added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Oxy played good defense, but struggled with shot selection and went 3 for 21 from three.

SCIAC Playoffs: The Tigers will be the No. 4 seed in the SCIAC Tournament, playing at No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer on Friday at 7 p.m. This will be the third postseason meeting between the teams in the past three years. Last season the Sagehens knocked off the Tigers in the SCIAC Championship.
