St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 31, 2020 – Junior guard Jack Nolan scored 13 points and notched his 1,000th career point as the No. 11-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team got past the University of Rochester 76-66 in front of 2,042 fans at the WU Field House Friday in St. Louis.

Senior forward DeVaughn Rucker tied his season-high with 18 points and was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line, while sophomore forward Justin Hardy had 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench in his first outing since Jan. 11.

WashU won its sixth-straight game to improve to 15-2 and 6-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Rochester dropped to 12-5 and 3-3 in the league.

Nolan was 5-of-12 from the field and hit 3-of-7 from three-point range in the win. He has scored 1,008 points in 68 career games (14.8 ppg), and his lay-up with 50 seconds left in the first half pushed him over the 1,000-point plateau. Nolan is the 25th player in school history to score 1,000 or more points in a career.

Rochester jumped out in front 10-2 in the four minutes of play as the Bears missed their first three shots from the field. Junior Payden Webb hit a deep three and Hardy added a one-handed slam to trim the lead to 15-11. 

A 10-3 run by WashU tied the contest at 21-21with 8:46 left, and then a three-point play gave the Bears a 28-27 lead. 

WashU took a 37-35 lead to halftime as the Bears shot 51.7 percent (15-29) from the field.

Nolan's three with 10:31 to play tied the contest at 53-53, but Rochester scored seven-straight out of a WashU timeout to make it 60-53. Hardy and Webb each hit a three to cut the lead to one, and then Webb made three free-throws to tie the game at 62-62 with 5:15 to play.

WashU went on an 8-0 run to take the 70-64 lead after WashU forced Rochester into six-consecutive misses from the field.

Patrick Benka led Rochester with 21 points on five three-pointers as Rochester shot 48.2 percent (27-56) from the field and hit just 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.

WashU closes out a four-game homestand against No. 8 Emory University on Sunday at Noon.
