GLENSIDE, Pa. - University of Scranton junior guard Logan Bailey (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) led the Royals with 21 points, but it wasn't enough, as host Arcadia jumped out to an early first half lead and never looked back in an eventual 84-67 win on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, Scranton had a five-game winning streak halted, as the Royals dropped to 9-3 overall. Arcadia improved to 7-6 with the win.
In the opening frame, Arcadia took control of the contest at the 10:30 mark, as they grabbed a 24-12 lead on Scranton after a 14-1 run. The rest of the period saw Arcadia keep the Royals at length, as the closest Scranton came to the Arcadia lead was five points (on two separate occasions).
To end the first half, Arcadia went into the locker room for intermission on a spurt, extending their lead back to double-figures at 44-32 at the break. It was more of the same for Scranton in the second half, as a quick 8-0 run by Arcadia gave the Knights their biggest lead of the game at 20 points (52-32) a minute into the second half.
The rest of the way, the Royals were unable to get back into the contest, as the closet Scranton coming to the Arcadia lead the rest of the game was 10 points (on two occasions). With that, the host Knights rolled down the stretch to collect a 17-point win over the Royals.
Overall, Bailey led the way for Scranton in a losing effort with his 21-point evening. Bailey, who also snatched six rebounds, went into double-figures for the 10th time on the 2019-20 season, as his 21-point performance was a season-best for the junior.
Elsewhere, senior Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) notched another double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mancuso, who has scored in double-digits in all 12 games Scranton has played in on the year, recorded his sixth double-double of the 2019-20 season in the defeat. He has also recorded a double-double in four of the last five games for the Royals, as well.
Overall, it was a tough shooting night for Scranton in the defeat, as the Royals only shot 38.3 percent from the floor and 4-of-20 from three-point range (20 percent).
Arcadia, meanwhile, was led on the night by guard Da'kquan Davis, who poured in a game-high 43 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the floor. Davis also went 15-of-18 from the free-throw line in the win, as well.
The University of Scranton men's basketball team will look to bounce back on Saturday, as the Royals leap back in Landmark Conference play with a home contest vs. Elizabethtown. Tip-off in the John Long Center is set for 2 p.m.
