Kelly Nets 28 as Hartwick Wins Fifth Straight

            POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Junior Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) dropped in career-highs of 28 points and six three-pointers to lead Hartwick's men's basketball team to its fifth straight victory Saturday with a 68-59 win at Vassar College (1-2). The Hawks are now 5-1 on the season.
            Kelly connected on 8-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-7 from three-point range in the contest. He added four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Pat Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) was also in double figures with 13 points. He added five boards.
            After an early Hartwick lead, the first half was back and forth with the Hawks trailing by five at one point before they settled on a 35-33 lead at the break after an Austin Haskell (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) three-pointer with five ticks left.
            Hartwick took control in the second half with a 14-1 run to start the period as the Hawks' defense held the Brewers to 0-for-9 shooting in the first nine and a half minutes to move in front 49-34.
            Vassar chipped away at the lead, eventually trimming the gap to just two, 56-54, with 3:09 remaining. Haskell answered with a bucket on the other end and layups from Kelly and Garey pushed the lead to five, 62-57, with 1:12 left.
            From there, Kelly was perfect from the line, going 4-for-4, and Garey hit a pair from the stripe as the Hawks picked up the victory.
            Bobby Connors (Rockville Centre, NY/Chaminade) contributed eight points for the Hawks. He also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Haskell finished with seven points and four boards. Kyle Bradshaw (Tinton Falls, NJ/Manasquan) scored six points and Nick Eiler (Highland Mills, NY/Saddle River Day) had four off the bench.
            Vassar received 12 points apiece from Ethan Ellis and Hugh Durham.
            The Hawks shot 44.6% (25-for-56) from the floor in the game. Vassar made 38.9% (21-for-54) of its shots. The Hawks out-rebounded the Brewers, 34-33.
            Hartwick takes its 5-1 record into Thanksgiving break. The Hawks next play at Mount St. Mary on Monday, December 2 beginning at 7 p.m.
