LOS ANGELES — Austin DeWitz hit the game-winner with 3.2 seconds left as the Occidental men's basketball team won at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 64-62 in the SCIAC Semifinals on Friday.

The Tigers advance to the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game that determines the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Oxy will play at Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

DeWitz scored a game-high 20 points, going 10 for 18 from the field, along with dishing out six assists and grabbing seven rebounds.

After Oxy had already let one 10-point lead slip away in regulation and the score tied at 62 in OT, he drove to the basket, pulled up, and nailed a 15-footer that hit nothing but the bottom of the net.

CMS tried to push the ball down the court with the little time they had left, but Oxy forced a turnover and came up with the loose ball at half court as the buzzer sounded.

Zach Baines was a force inside for the Tigers, going 8 for 9 from the field for 16 points. He was effective posting down low and also grabbed six rebounds. 

Ryan Kaneshiro was outstanding on defense for Oxy, holding CMS' leading scorer Nick Segura to just 14 points on 5 for 14 shooting. He also ran the show effectively on the offensive end, scoring eight points with seven assists, two steals and just one turnover. 

Jacob Adler had a couple of big baskets at the end of overtime and regulation, going 5 for 10 with 10 points. Caleb Yellin-Flaherty scored 10 points and had three assists in two steals before fouling out.

With Jonny Crosthwaite out with an injury and Yellin-Flaherty on the bench, Kyle Dosa came up solid with good defense and good handling of the basketball.

Mitchell Kirsch had 14 points for CMS, including going 3 for 3 from the 3-point line. Miles President went 3 for 6 from three for 12 points and Mark Sui added 11 points and 4 assists. George Walker was a force on the offensive glass, grabbing five offensive rebounds and 11 total in 23 minutes played.

The Tigers will have to bounce back quick after playing heavy minutes and square off with the No. 14 Sagehens. Oxy beat Pomona-Pitzer in their last regular season game 64-63 and lost the first matchup in Claremont back in January.
