Sewanee Men's Basketball Sees Home Win Streak End Friday Night

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team suffered a home loss for the first time in 19 home games, as the Tigers were defeated by the Vikings of Berry College, 69-63, Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee trailed by as much as five points in the first half. Thanks to a Luke Smith triple late in the opening half, the Tigers trailed 29-27 at the break.

-Berry came out with a 12-0 run in nearly five minutes to open the second half, 39-27.

-Despite Sewanee getting the contest to a two-possession game late, the Tigers could not overcome the run by Berry early in the half.

-Sewanee, who entered the weekend tied for the third-longest home winning streak in all of NCAA Division III, saw its 18-game streak come to an end. Sewanee's last loss at home came on Nov. 19, 2017 with a defeat against Methodist.

-The Tigers' 10-game winning streak in SAA play also ended on Friday night, The last setback came on Feb. 5, 2017 against Oglethorpe.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Luke Smith led the Tigers with 20 points and four steals.

-Cam Caldwell went 8-of-12 from the floor and finished with 19 points.

-Hunter Buescher finished with 17 points, while Jordan Warlick corralled nine rebounds.

BERRY KEY STATISTICS
-Elijah Hirsh led all scorers with 22 points and added nine rebounds, seven on the offensive glass.

-Ethan Clark and Caleb Haynes each added 11 points.

UP NEXT
The Tigers continue their season-ending three-game homestand Sunday against Oglethorpe.
