THE BASICS:

- The Lead: After getting off to a quick double-digit lead, the No. 6 ranked MIT men's basketball team ran its winning streak to eight straight with a 75-54 home win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday night. With the victory, MIT now has four straight 20-win seasons. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers seized a 10-0 advantage over the first 2:23 of play, capped by a fastbreak layup from senior Bradley Jomard (Paris, France). MIT pushed the lead out to 20 points with 9:22 on the clock following one of five first-half three-pointers from sophomore Hamilton Forsythe (Weston, Conn.) made it 30-10.

- Sophomore Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) nailed a three with 4:16 left to make it a 44-14 margin before the Bears went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead down to 44-23 at the 2:27 mark on a dunk from Noah Baldez. MIT eventually took a 50-25 lead into the half after shooting a blistering 62.5 percent from three-point land (10-for-16).

- In the second, Luke Daniels hit a pair of free throws for the Bears to make it a 52-32 game just 2:12 into the half. The Engineers countered with an 20-7 run over the next 8:23 for its largest lead of the contest at 72-39. Coast Guard held MIT scoreless over the final 4:41 and closed with a 7-0 spurt to account for the 21-point victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Forsythe led four Engineers in double figures with 22 points as he connected on 5-of-8 three-point tries. Hinkley added 15 points, while Jomard had an 11-point, 11-assist double-double and senior Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) added 13 points. Roberts was 5-for-8 from the field and entered the game leading the nation in field goal percentage at 70.5. 

- Baldez paced the Bears with eight points, while Packy Witkowski was one of four Bears with six points as he now sits at 989 for his career.

- MIT held the Bears to 32.1 percent shooting from the field, 12.5 percent from three and forced 20 turnovers. The Engineers also registered 18 assists on 25 field goals made and shot 46.4 percent from three.

- The Engineers now have 11 all-time 20-win seasons, all coming under the direction of 24th-year head coach Larry Anderson.

- MIT is ranked sixth in this week's D3Hoops.com National Poll as the Engineers are up one spot from No. 7 in last week's rankings. In addition, the Engineers are ranked first in the NCAA Northeast Regional rankings that came out earlier in the day.
