Sewanee Men’s Basketball Edges Majors on the Road to End Losing Skid

JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee men's basketball team survived a last-second rally by Millsaps, defeating the Majors, 68-67, Sunday afternoon inside the Hangar Dome. With the win, the Tigers snap a three-game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-No team had more than a five-point lead in the first 15:30 of the contest. With 4:29 left in the period, the home team went on a 6-0 run to lead 36-29 in a two-minute span.

-Sewanee finished the half on a 5-0 run to make it a two-point deficit, 36-34, at the intermission.

-With 10 minutes to go, Millsaps made it a nine-point contest, 53-44. The Tigers rallied by going on a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead, 54-53 with 7:20 left in the contest.

-The teams stayed within one possession of each until the three-minute mark. Trailing 60-59, Sewanee scored the next five points to make it a four-point lead, 64-60.

-With less than a minute to go, leading 66-65, the Tigers made it a three-point game on a Hunter Buescher jumper. Millsaps made it a one-point game with a Justin Van Pelt layup with 25 seconds to go.

-After a foul by the Majors, the home team earned a break after two missed free throws to keep the deficit one point.

-On the Majors final possession, the Majors fumbled the ball in the paint and there was a tie-up on the floor. With four seconds remaining, the possession arrow ruled in favor of Sewanee.

-The Tigers were able to run the clock out without giving the Majors the opportunity to foul.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Cam Caldwell recorded a career-high performance with his first 20-point game of his career. The senior went 10-of-15 from the field and finished with 27 points. 

-Hunter Buescher added 16 points, five rebounds and four steals.

-Luke Smith dropped 13 points, while Jonny Crumly corralled 10 rebounds.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-James Turner led the 13 points and six rebounds.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will return to the Domain this upcoming weekend with a contest against Birmingham-Southern to start the second half of the conference schedule. The contest will commence on Friday at 8 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium, following the women's game.
