WAYNE, N.J. – Despite double-doubles from Saint Simeon Beaubrun (Irvington, N.J./Columbia) and Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo), the William Paterson men's basketball team (10-7, 5-5 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) home contest to Montclair State (12-5, 7-3 NJAC), 72-63, Jan. 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a Smith three-pointer and a Domenic Mignone(Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and-1 gave WP a quick 6-2 advantage, the Pioneers were led scoreless for seven minutes as the Red Hawks pulled ahead 11-6. Back-and-forth action ensued before a Beaubrun layup, coupled with an Anthony Uribe (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Catholic) trifecta, gave the home team a four-point lead (31-27). MSU would knock down three free-throws in the final two minutes as William Paterson entered the lock room ahead 31-30.
  • MSU opened the second stanza by outscoring WP 22-9 and held a 12-point cushion (52-40) with 9:48 remaining. William Paterson would cut the deficit to nine on three different occasion, but would get no closer as Montclair State made eight straight free throws down the stretch to seal the win.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Beaubrun totaled 11 rebounds and 10 point to collect his third double-double in the past four games. Smith added 15 tallies while pulling down a career-best 11 boards and Uribe was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe as he contributed 10 points. Mignone finished the evening with 13 points, his 11th double-digit scoring output of the season, and tied his season-high with eight assists.
  • WP forced 21 turnovers, converting MSU's miscues into 19 points.
