Late runs lifts Eastern Mennonite over Buffalo State, 90-85

BRIDGEWATER, Va.— Buffalo State was unable to convert a halftime lead into a victory, dropping a 90-85 decision against Eastern Mennonite today in the final day of the Don Glick Classic hosted by Bridgewater College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) led five Bengals' scoring in double figures with 16 points.
  • Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Ryniek Holloway (Corona/Bayside) also scored 15 points.
  • Kareem Holmes (New York/The Knox School) chipped in 12 points and eight assists, and Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) also netted 12 points.
  • Buffalo State quickly erased an early six-point deficit with a 12-0 run to lead 17-11 before the midway point of the first half.
  • The Bengals pushed the advantage to as many as nine on multiple occasions and continued to lead 47-43 at the break.
  • The Royals pulled ahead early in the second half, but a three-point play by Holloway pushed the Bengals back in front at 64-62 with 11 minutes remaining.
  • Buffalo State led again at 72-70 with seven minutes left, but a 12-2 answer by Eastern Mennonite gave the Royal a lead they would never relinquish.
  • The Royals outscored the Bengals 54-40 in the paint and shot 54 percent from the floor for the game, compared to 43 percent shooting by Buffalo State. 
  • Eastern Mennonite also held a 21-13 scoring advantage from the free-throw line.

FOR THE FOES

  • Sammy Thomas led the Royals with 24 points and eight rebounds.
  • Travis Clower netted 19 points, and Tim Jones scored 17.
