BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) scored a game-high 31 points while Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and Myles McLeod (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) added 18 tallies apiece as the William Paterson men's basketball team (8-4) secured a 76-63 non-conference road victory at Brooklyn College (6-4) Dec. 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- WP took control of the game from the opening tip, racing out to a 12-3 advantage that forced the Bulldogs into a timeout. Play resumed with the Pioneers increasing their lead, as a pair of Smith trifectas gave the visitors a 13-point cushion (18-5). Brooklyn would battle back make it a one-point game (32-31) before Mignone's long three-pointer gave the Pioneers a 35-31 lead at the break.
- Following intermission, Smith would score 10 points during a 14-4 burst to push the Pioneers' lead to 14 (49-35). The Bulldogs would keep it interesting, getting it back to a two-possession game (53-47), before William Paterson responded with a 13-2 run to and cruised to the 76-63 triumph.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Coming off its worst shooting performance of the season, WP knocked down 28-of-56 (.500) shots from the field, including nine from beyond the arc.
- Defensively, the Pioneers owned a 39-33 rebounding margin and Henry Voorhees (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) added a season-high four blocks.
- William Paterson has won three-straight over Brooklyn and leads the all-time series 7-3.
