THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Led by four players in double figures, the No. 9 ranked MIT men's basketball ran its winning streak to eight as the Engineers defeated Fitchburg State by an 89-55 final on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers led by a 6-4 margin early on before embarking on a 24-2 run over the next 7:08 to seize a commanding 30-6 lead midway through the half.

- Following a layup by Marcos Germosen at the 6:17 mark, the Falcons were within 16 at 34-18 before MIT closed the half on a 16-3 run for the commanding 50-21 advantage at the break.

- Senior Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) had 14 points and 13 rebounds in the opening period and senior Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) paced all scorers with 15 points. The Engineers also forced 12 first-half turnovers, converting those into 19 points on the other end.

- In the second half, the Engineers led by at least 30 and by as many as 38 before coming away with the 36-point win. MIT shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second period while holding the Falcons to 38.7 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

- Today marked the sixth all-time meeting between the two schools as MIT holds a 6-0 advantage over the Falcons.

- The Engineers are ranked No. 9 in this week's D3Hoops.com National Poll, up two spots from last week's rankings.

- For the game, MIT shot 60.4 percent from the field and outscored Fitchburg 21-3 from behind the arc. The Engineers also forced 21 turnovers for the game and held a commanding 48-30 edge in scoring in the paint. 

- Led by a career-high six blocks from sophomore Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.), MIT finished the game with eight blocks overall while posting 22 assists on 32 field goals made.

- Roberts posted his fifth overall and third straight double-double with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds while also adding four assists and two blocks. Roberts also finished 9-for-11 from the field and now ranks third in the nation with 74.7 percent shooting from the field overall.

- Jomard finished with 23 points and a game-high five assists, while senior Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) and Hinkley each posted a 14-point performance. 

- Devon Johnson was the lone Fitchburg player in double figures as he finished with 10 points in 23 minutes off the bench. The Falcons also registered 10 steals and forced 16 MIT turnovers.

- MIT is back on the road for its final two non-conference games of the season as the Engineers head to Rhode Island College and Bridgewater State next week. The RIC game is slated for Monday, December 10th at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Thursday matchup with the Bears at 7 p.m.
