Ringel's Career-High Forces Overtime, But TCNJ Falls to Stockton in Conference Opener

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's basketball team forced overtime late for the second straight game, but found the same result in the extra session falling in the conference opener 87-70 at Stockton University. The Lions are 1-3 on the young season, while the Ospreys improved to 2-1 on the year.

 

The Lions jumped out to a 15-14 lead before the Ospreys used an 11-3 run, capped by a jumper from Tariq Baker, to take early control midway through the first half. Baker led all scorers in the first half with 10 points.

 

Stockton would take a 35-29 lead into the half.

 

The Ospreys came out hot in the second half, scoring eight straight points to push the lead to 14. TCNJ would immediately answer. Trailing 45-33, the Lions went on a 12-2 run getting seven points from Randall Walko and capped by a triple from Mike Walley off a feed from Joe Montano. Walko scored 20 points to lead the Lions.

 

Minutes later, a free throw by Travis Jocelyn would tie the score at 54, but the Lions would go cold from the floor as the Ospreys would go on an 8-0 run over the game's next 6:34.

 

TCNJ then made up for lost time, closing out regulation on a 10-2 run, capped by a P.J. Ringel lay-up to force the extra session. Ringel scored a career-high 11 points.

 

Stockton controlled the overtime period, jumping out to a 12 point lead before the Lions got on the board. The Ospreys were nearly perfect from the line in the extra session, going 18-19 (94.7%) to close out the game. Keenan Williams was 13-13 from the charity stripe in the extra session on his way to leading all scorers with 21 points.

 

Jordan Glover continued his ascent of the program career rebound list moving into 14th place with a team-high eight boards bringing his career total to 408.

 

Steve Ferebee had nine rebounds to pace the Ospreys.

 

The Lions will get the Thanksgiving holiday to regroup before travelling to Rowan University for another NJAC showdown on Nov. 28.
