ONEONTA, NY – After a tight 36-32 first half, visiting Alfred (18-7, 11-5 E8) pulled away in the second half of play in a 77-66 victory over Hartwick's men's basketball team. The Hawks close their season 9-16 overall and 6-10 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) led three Hawks in double figures with 13 points. He added three assists, three steals, and he connected on a trio of three-pointers. Kevin Townes (Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, and three three-pointers. Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland), playing in his final game as a Hawk, missed a double-double by one rebound with 11 points and a team-high nine boards.

The Hawks would take their only lead, 10-9, at the 16:17 mark of the first half following a layup from Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) before Alfred answered two possessions later on a three-pointer. The Saxon lead would grow to 10 points before a 9-0 run from the Hawks would cut the margin to one two and a half minutes later.

The Saxons would build their advantage back to nine points with under two minutes left in the half, but a three from Matt Knezovic (Ballston Lake, NY/Mansfield University) and a layup from du Moulin trimmed it to a four-point deficit at the break.

The game went scoreless for the opening five minutes of the second half. The Saxons finally scored on a three to trigger an 11-0 spurt to make it a 15-point game, 47-32. A pair from the line from Austin Haskell (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) marked Hartwick's first points of the half after seven and a half minutes. A Sam Hanley (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) jumper would be the Hawks' first field goal at the 11:43 mark and their deficit would be fourteen, 50-36. 'Wick cut its deficit to 11 points on five different occasions over the next six and a half minutes but never got any closer.

Haskell closed the game with nine points. Kzezovic accounted for six points on a pair of threes and fellow senior Corey Baker (Granby, MA/Granby) added five points and six rebounds. Hanley also finished with five points.
