THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – On Saturday Maritime senior Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) made history as he became just the third player in program history to record 1,500 points in a home matchup with the Mount St. Mary Knights inside Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The Privateers dropped the Skyline Conference decision by a 73-67 score.

MacDonald joins Michael Nukk '99, and Michael Cutts '87, as the only players to record at least 1,500 career points while in a Privateer uniform. Nukk ended his career with 1,797 points, while Cutts finished his career with 1,690 points.

MacDonald finished the day with a double-double as he scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) shot lights out as he went 9-of-13 from the field for a team-best 23 points, including a game-high five three-point baskets.

Senior John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting, and also added seven rebounds to go along with four assists. Freshman Brennan Whelan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led the Privateers with five assists and added four points, while sophomore Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) also knocked down four points on the game.

Junior James Bonner (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and senior Tim McQuail (Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) rounded out the scoring as Bonner had three and McQuail had a jumper in the second half.

The first half was evenly contested between the two sides as the Privateers and Knights both connected on 12 shots from the field, with the Knights adding one more three-pointer than the Privateers. Both squads were a combined 5-of-5 from the stripe, with Maritime connecting on three in contrast to Mount St. Mary's two.

The Privateers opened up the game with the first five points as MacDonald connected on a layup followed by a made three-point basket by Walker. The Knights scored the next three before McGovern gave Maritime a five-point lead back with his lone three-pointer of the game. The Knights scored the next three and evened the game at eight.

The lead exchanged hands on seven more occasions during the first half before the evenly contested period went into the halftime break tied at 31.

To open the second half Maritime opened up a four-point lead as Liccese knocked down a free throw with just over two minutes gone by. The Knights took a one-point lead at 38-37, but Maritime responded once again and took a four-point lead at 14:27 after a made basket by McQuail. The Knights tied the game at 43 and then pulled away as they pushed ahead by as many as 11 points before ultimately picking up the 73-67 victory.

Maritime (9-14, 6-13 Skyline) will be back in action again tomorrow afternoon, when the team travels to nearby New Rochelle for their final non-conference and final road game of the season against the New Rochelle Blue Angels for a 2 p.m. start from the Wellness Center.
