No. 12 UW-Whitewater Earns Road Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team defeated UW-Stout, 74-55, on the road in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

 

The Warhawks (16-5 overall, 6-4 WIAC) shot 11-of-19 from behind the arc and 53 percent from the floor in the first half to outscore the Blue Devils, 46-29, before maintaining the lead in the second half.

 

Junior guard Mitchell Pfeifer lead the Warhawks with 22 points, including six made 3-pointers.  Junior guard Dalton Menke added 20 points and also sank six 3-pointers.  Junior guard Andre Brown tallied 12 points and five assists.

 

UW-Whitewater started the game on a 9-0 run, hitting three 3-pointers in three possessions.  Pfeifer continued the trend, draining another 3-pointer with 15 minutes remaining in the half to give the Warhawks a 12-5 lead.

 

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the half, Brown finished a basket inside the paint to give UW-Whitewater a 14-point lead.

 

Menke drained his fourth 3-pointer in the half with 7:40 remaining in the period to give the Warhawks a 32-13 lead.

 

With 30 seconds remaining in the half Pfeifer knocked down a 3-pointer to give UW-Whitewater their final points of the half.

 

Pfeifer came out hot in the second half, scoring the first two baskets in the half for the Warhawks.

 

The Blue Devils (7-14 overall, 1-9 WIAC) came back within nine points with just under 10 minutes left in play, but UW-Whitewater answered with a 3-point basket from Brown.

 

Junior guard David Sachs finished a basket inside to give the Warhawks the lead, 71-55, with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

 

UW-Whitewater's bench contributed 25 points in the contest compared to UW-Stout's reserves, which scored 11.  The Warhawks outrebounded the Blue Devils 42-33 in the victory.

 

UW-Whitewater will continue play Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. against No. 18 UW-Oshkosh at Kachel Gymnasium.
